Match Preview: Blyth Spartans (A)

After Saturday’s washout Brig finally return to league action making the journey up to the north east as they take on Blyth Spartans.

The hosts currently occupy the bottom of the table and are without a win since mid-September. In their past five games they have lost five conceded eighteen and scored one. They returned to the league this season after relegation from the National League North in April and are yet to return to form.

However they have recently bolstered their squad since the appointment of Michael Connor as manager at the start of the month, forward Cyril Girald the sixth arrival made his debut for the club in Saturday’s loss at high flying Macclesfield.

As well as Girald in the forward line top scorer Billy Gordon is a player to watch out for with five goals for the campaign so far.

It is the first meeting between the two sides since April 2005 where Brig ran out 3-1 victors at the SFC Stadium, manager Jamie Milligan will be hoping for a similar outcome at Croft Park.

Brig are without a league win since late October, Simon Grand’s scored his fifth goal in all competitions in last week’s cup victory over Chorley. New signing Nathan Mercer made his first start in that game and is vying for his league debut.

The road has been successful for Brig so far this season having picked up thirteen points and three wins. A win could take Brig ten points of the playoffs with a game in hand over most of the teams above.

For those not making the long trip, match updates can be found online on the club’s official X (twitter) and Facebook accounts, with the game kicking off at 7:45 PM.
