


Bamber Bridge 1 -2 Workington AFC
Workington won the toss and Kai Nugent got the game underway at the SFC Stadium.
The first change fell to the visitors on 8 minutes. game was underway and the visitors were the team to have the first chance on 8’ minutes when Matthew Clarke played a ball to Connor Pani, whose shot from the on the edge when just over the bar.
Minutes later it was chaos in the Workington box. Russ whipping in a cross which after a scramble fell to Robbie Cleary, who couldn’t quite get his shot away.
The next chance also fell to Brig. Potts made a great run through the middle of the field, and played the ball to Cleary, but the lineman’s flag then went up for offside.
It was one-way traffic for Brig now as Heath had another opportunity to take the lead. Heath later set up Hey, whose cross found Cleary, but his volley went over the bar.
On 22’ minutes the Reds had another chance, Symington put a good ball into the box for Allen, whose header went just over the bar.
Just minutes later Brig had a great chance to open the scoring. A good ball found Hey on the left side which set him though on goal, but a good save from Mitchell in the Workington goal denied the opportunity.
The final chance of the half fell to Brig right on the stroke of half time. A superb free kick found Simon Grand in the box, but his shot was blocked.
Brig started strong with Heath playing Finlay Wallbank into the box, but his pass was blocked for a corner.
Seconds later Brig had another chance. A panic moment for Workington saw goalkeeper Alex Mitchell’s miskick the ball to Brig’s Chris Churchman, whose shot was block by Swinglehurst.
Brig opened the scoring on 56’ minutes. A long ball over the top by Adam Dodd found its way to Ambrose who missed the ball, leaving it for Brig’s Will Russ. He unleashed a powerful strike into the bottom corner of the net.
Just moments later, Brig were close to a second. The ball fell to Heath inside the box, but his shot was tipped over the bar by Mitchell in the Workington Goal.
Workington equalised on 72’ minutes. A good ball through by Matthew Clarke found Steven Rigg who drove into the box and slotted it past Charlie Casper.
Just 2 minutes later Brig had a chance to regain the lead. A Lewis Hey shot from outside the box went just wide.
Heartbreak struck for Brig on 88’ minutes as substitute Ruben Grewal made it 2 for Workington. A good ball came into the box to Casson who headed it back across the box to Grewal who headed home.
Final score Bamber Bridge 1 – 2 Workington AFC.
Bamber Bridge are next in action on Saturday 15 February as the travel to Broadhurst Park to face FC United of Manchester.
