Bamber Bridge 4 -2 Prescot Cables

The first half was as cold as the temperature with both sides struggling to break each other down in the first 25 minutes.

The opening opportunity of the game would come for Brig just before the half hour mark. Finlay Walbank breaking down the right-hand side before looping in a cross to Jeff Adubofour who took a touch before seeing his effort blocked.

Despite the lack of chances, the sides would not go in level at half time. Michael Potts won Brig possession in the final third finding Lucas Weaver on the right the Brig’s number seven charged past his man before delivering a powerful low cross to the Captain Potts who lunged in and stroked the ball into the bottom right corner to open the scoring and give Brig a half time lead.

As the clock ticked past the hour mark Brig had a golden opportunity to double their lead. Adubofour finding first half substitute Danny Edwards in the box the midfielder with tricky feat duped his man before being brought down resulting in a Brig Penalty. Olly Molloy would be handed the responsibility coolly finding the top left corner from twelve yards to give Brig breathing room.

They would not have this for long, however Cables pulling a goal back just 5 minutes later Jack Goodwin finding John Murphy with a low cross Murphy first time finish halving the deficit for the visitors to restore hope for the travelling fans.

That hope would be diminished seconds later. Almost immediately after kickoff Molloy received the ball swiveling before feeding an excellent through ball to Weaver who sent a lethal finish past the onrushing keeper to restore the two-goal cushion.

However just 3 minutes later that cushion had been reduced to just one goal. Walbank conceding a penalty which the visiting skipper James Foley dispatched putting an end to a crazy 10-minute period with two goals for either side.

Brig began to sit back and dig in to defend their lead Nicolas Michalski pulling of a wonderful double save to first keep out a wicked Michael Carberry volley and then a reflex save to somehow tip Murphy’s rebounded header around the post.

As the game entered the final ten minutes Brig’s defensive resilience was tested yet again. Substitute Chris Churchman with an inspiring goal saving tackle to deny Ben Elliot from a Finlay Cross-Adair cutback and then Michalski producing another top save to keep out a powerful low effort from Foley.

In the eighth minute of additional time Brig would seal their victory. Adubofour with some fantastic hold up play before finding Jack Baxter in the middle of the opposition half, the midfielder maneuvered the ball speedily to substitute Billy Hasler-Cregg who took aim and unleashed a powerful effort through the outstretched hand of Andre Mendes in goal before wheeling away in celebration.

A fantastic win for Brig who now have a week to prepare for their trip to Workington Town on Tuesday 17th September.
