Match Preview: Chorley v Bamber Bridge

After narrow defeat to Farsley Celtic in the FA Trophy, more cup action is upon us as Brig travel to Victory Park to take on Chorley in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy.

Saturday’s defeat to Farsley saw Brig knocked out of the cup competition in the second round.

However, the score line did not reflect proceedings as Brig dominated against higher opposition for large spells with the Farsley keeper producing a string of outstanding saves.

A return to league action will have to wait as Brig travel to Victory Park to take on the highest ranked side in the cup.

The hosts

The Magpies host Bamber Bridge on Tuesday (19th November) looking to maintain an amazing start to the season.

Occupying top spot in the National League North after 17 games, Chorley have accumulated nine victories, five draws and only been triumphed on three occasions.

Brig will be fully aware of the danger Andy Preece’s Magpies can inflict but will go to Victory Park confident recent form will stand the lads in good stead of potentially upsetting the odds.

Key to any Brig success will be nullifying the strengths of loanees Danny Ormerod and Dubem Eze.

Ormerod has hit the ground running since joining on-loan from AFC Fylde last month scoring two goals in three games helping the Magpies summit the National League North.

Eze has added creative flair and an eye for goal after recently joining on-loan from Bolton Wanderers till January 2025.

Brig

With one eye on a long trip to Gainsborough on the weekend, the cup could see rotation and potential opportunities for players from the reserve side to step up.

One such player would be new arrival Nathan Mercer who joined on a work-experience loan from Morecambe.

After having to settle for a place amongst the subs against Farsley Celtic, the young midfielder enjoyed a late cameo at the SFC Stadium and could come in from the start against the Magpies.

After making his debut for Morecambe at the beginning of October, Mercer has linked up with Brig and be hoping to make an impact over the coming weeks.

A word from the gaffer

“We’ve got lads that probably need game time, so we’ll use it for that. But we also want to try and win the game as well. They’re flying in the league, and they’ve got a great management team there and our doing really well. But we’re going to go there and play the same way we play and hopefully we can get through.”
