Workington AFC v Bamber Bridge
Bamber Bridge make the journey to Workington AFC for the second time this season in the first round of the FA Trophy.
Brig go in to the game brimming with confidence following a comfortable 4-0 victory over FC United of Manchester at the weekend . Top scorer Lucas Weaver bagged a brace bringing his total for the season up to 8 goals, the man in form will be hoping to add to that total on Saturday.
Another man to look out for in the Brig forward line is Simon Grand, since being moved up top this season the striker has scored twice in October, one being the winner against Guiseley in the last qualifying round of the FA Trophy.
To get to this stage of the competition Brig had to overcome a penalty shootout in a replay at Newton Aycliffe before the aforementioned win at Guisley. The hosts beat Morpeth Town to seal qualification.
Workington currently sit 3 points behind Brig in the table and the cup offers a welcome break for the hosts who come off the back of a heavy loss at Stockton Town. They will hope Steven Rigg’s goalscoring form can continue, with 2 of his 7 goals coming in this competition.
The hosts finished last season just 3 points behind Brig in the table and the sides have already met once this campaign. It was Brig who came out on top that day running out 2-1 victors however, this is the only loss that Workington have had at home all season.
After Saturday's win manager Jamie Milligan said, “It’s going to be another tough game away from home but there’s no reason why we can’t go on another run because we’ve got the lads to do it, and we’ve got the ability to do it.”
Kick off is at 3:00pm and for those not making the trip they can follow the game through minute by minute updates on our X (Twitter) and Facebook accounts. Score updates will also be on here.
