Saturdays match report
Seth’s take on Saturdays game.
Bamber Bridge climb to 2nd in the table after claiming all available points over Guiseley
The teams we're out and Emerich Poilly got us underway at Irongate on a sunny afternoon.
The first chance of the game came just under ten minutes in. Some excellent footwork in the middle of the pitch by Scarborough, brushed past Brown before sending Poilly through on goal, he cut inside before taking on a good shot which was blocked by Hopper. Just one minute later though on 9' minutes Brig had another chance. Churchman recieved the ball on the edge of the box before firing away a good shot which looks to hit the hand of Lawlor, but the referee waves away all shouts for handball.
Soon after the Lions had their first chance of the game. A long ball by goalkeeper Cracknell, found target man, Spencer on the left hand side, he then whipped in a good cross which found goalscorer Longbottom but his shot went way over the bar. Guiseley then did have another chance to take the lead, a goal mouth scramble came after a corner but the visitors we're unlucky as Grand was able to clear the ball away.
After 25 minutes into the game, the game started to become very lively and both teams starting having chance after chance. A good corner routine by Brig eventually saw Baxter take a shot from distance but it went just wide of the left post. Then just moments later Cracknell is forced into an amazing save. A great cross into the box by Abankwah found the head of Potts which looked to be floating into the top left corner but Lions keeper Cracknell, made a phenominal save to deny the Brig midfielder from close range. 2 minutes later Brig we're on the attack once again. Some great footwork between Bange and Baxter on the edge of the box came just before a shot by Churchman once again was put just over the bar.
A first card of the game for Hopper, after Brig found themselves on a a counter attack, before the Guiseley defender wraps his arms around Poilly's legs to stop him going forward. HALF TIME
The second half was underway and Brig we're forced into an early change just 5 minutes into the half, as an injured Dodd was replaced by one of Milligan's new signings Nathaniel Knight-Percival.
GOAL! 10 minutes into the half Brig took the lead with a goal by Churchman. A cross into the box by Potts found Bange who pulled off an amazing overhead kick which the Guiseley goalkeeper reacted well too, although midfield mystro Chris Churchman managed to win the rebound with a cracking diving header.
58' minutes gone and Churchman had another chance at goal. This time a throw in from Hey finds Churchman, who turns and shoots from the edge of the box, but it's just wide.
GOAL! Brig get themselves a second in quick succession. Hey fires in a good cross to Bange on the edge of the box as he fires away a shot, it takes a slight deflection before finding the bottom right corner.
Straight after the goal, Brig made three changes with Bange, Scarborough and Potts coming off and Allen, Moore and Bould coming on. Then, the game started to quieten as the next chance came in the 77' minute. A free kick on the edge of the D was taken by Hey, he hits it to the right of the keeper where once again Crackell meeds to make a good save. A final change for Brig was then made as Bailey replaced Baxter. The final chance of the game once more came for Brig Poilly drove forward before ending up taking a powerful shot, but its saved again by Cracknell. FULL TIME
