Match report from Saturdays win over Matlock Town

Ball on pitch

Seth’s match report

An excellent performance by Brig saw us take all 3 points after a good 3-0 win

The teams were out and Matlock's Elliott Whitehouse got us underway ata the SFC Stadium.

The game started out quite equal with both teams having limited chances, but the first real chance of the game was in favour of the visitors. Matlock found themselves in a 3 on 1 with only Dodd to beat. Clayton plays the ball to Montel Gibson but Wallbank manages to sprint back and block the shot.

On 12' minutes Matlock have another chance. A long throw in found new signing Noel-Williams who took on the shot, but it was saved comfortably by loan keeper Casper.

After a slow start Brig were then back in it after having chance after chance. On 20' minutes Brig were so close to an opener. A great run on the right side by Potts who then plays an enticing ball into the box for Cleary, but his shot was saved off the line by captain Josh Granite. Just 2 minutes later Brig had another chance. Baxter plays a good pass into Cleary who cuts inside and shoots, but it goes just wide of the left post.

On 29' minutes Brig had yet another chance, a fantastic build up play eventually found Baxter who took on the shot but it was blocked and outfor a corner. The corner came into Bange who wins the header to flick the ball onto Potts, but his shot goes just wide. Up until half time the game was equal once again and neither teams had many real chances. Half Time

The teams came out and just like last week Brig came out like a completely different team and had a chance just seconds into the half. A good move by Jarrett who played the ball to Brockbank on the left side, he whipped in a good ball but it was cleared away by Oglesby

GOAL! An instant attak coming from the cleared ball. Wallbank excellenty brings the ball down and plays a superb long ball to Potts who managed to get past 2 Matlock defenders on the touchline. He played a great ball into the box which found the head of Ewan Bange to give Brig the lead on 46' minutes.

After Brig took the lead they managed to keep possession very well and making some good moves. On 59' minutes Brig strook the post. A mistake by Matlock sees Jarret with the ball deep into the visitors half. He plays a good pass into Bange who took on the shot, but goalkeeeper Alexander tipped it onto the post which Smith then cleared.

Then a silly foul by Grand saw him the first player in the referees book. Adam Clayton whipped in the cross from the free kick which found top goalscorer Montel Gibson, but his header went straight into Casper.

9 minutes later Brig should have made it 2. A brilliant run through the middle of the pitch by Dodd. He then plays a good through ball to Bange but his shot was then fantasticly blocked.

GOAL! On 76' minutes Jack Baxter finally made it two for Brig. A tremendous mazy run by Potts who then slots Baxter in on goal. He takes a touch round the goalkeeper before slotting it home into an empty net.

GOAL! Robbie Cleary made it 2 goals in under 10 minutes for Brig! A fantastic run by Jarrett on the right side. He takes it past Milambo, then runs across into the box and lays it off beautifully for Cleary to tap it in from close range.

For the final 10 minutes Matlock really didn't look like getting a goal as Brig we're playing them off the park keeping possession well and creating good chances and after 94' minutes Brig were able to see of the game and it finished 3-0

After a good performance and a clean sheet it now puts us in 17th and 3 points off 14th. Brig's next game is next Saturday when we go away to league leaders Macclesfield
