Corinthian-Casuals SSC report

match report by Eli Haidari

Kingstonian put their stuttering league form to one side on Wednesday night with a convincing 3-1 win over neighbours Corinthian-Casuals in the Surrey Senior Cup as Spencer Knight recorded his first win as K’s manager.

The re-arranged first round fixture gave both sides the opportunity to return to winning ways and it was Kingstonian who ran out comfortable winners dominating the contest throughout.

Spencer Knight’s men grabbed a foothold in the game early on with Casuals stopper Mohammed Otuyo having to be alert to deny Corey Parchment and then Kieron Cadogan with a sharp save down to his right.

K’s continued their early pressure and were rewarded in the 18th minute as Jack Strange reacted quickest in the box to prod the ball home from a corner against his former club.

Casuals attempted to respond immediately and had the ball in the back of the net soon after, only for the goal to be promptly chalked for offside.

Moments later, Parchment caught Otuyo taking too long on the ball and dispossessed the Casuals stopper before squaring for Nodirbek Bobomurodov to tap home for 2-0 and register his first goal for the club in the process.

Kingstonian continued to dominate the midfield battle before half time, forcing Casuals into speculative efforts from distance, however, as the game entered into added time at the end of the first half, K’s skipper Rob Tolfrey was forced into a superb spot to deny Sam Dowridge after being played through on goal.

Justin Fevrier’s side came out fighting after the break and Tolfrey was twice called into action first to smother Nathaniel Pinney’s angled effort and then to smartly beat away Thomas Jackson’s curled attempt.

However, the visiting team were made to pay for their lack of conviction on the hour mark as Parchment’s pin-point cross from the left-hand side found Tyrese Owen unmarked in the box who guided the ball home from close range.

Bobomurodov should have arguable added a fourth in the 77th min after Thomas Gogo’s darting run found the former Casuals man in space down the left flank however his effort clipped the top of the bar on the way over.

Pinney pulled one back for the visitors with ten minutes remaining after latching on to a cross driven in to the six-yard box with the K’s defence asleep.

There were then chances for both sides with the final few minutes remaining. Pinney found himself in space down the right-hand side and could have made the closing stages interesting, only for the winger to see his effort denied by the ever-reliable Tolfrey.

Cadogan could only divert his effort straight at Otuyo deep into injury time after Bobomurodov had found the forward in space in the Casuals penalty area which proved to be the final chance of the game as Kingstonian progressed to the second round of the Surrey Senior Cup.

The K’s will now return their attention to the league where they welcome Cray Wanderers at Imperial Fields on Saturday with a 1pm kick-off scheduled.
