Corinthian-Casuals match report

match report by Simon Grier

Ks moved to within a point of safety thanks to a comfortable 2-0 win over Corinthian-Casuals at King George's Field. The job still isn't done but it was certainly a huge stride toward Ks escaping from this tough season with their Premier Division status intact.

Casuals, who themselves had had their relegation confirmed with a defeat at Cray 48 hours earlier, started the brighter. But they struggled to turn attacking intent into clear chances and then on 16 minutes a fierce 25-yard awayswinger from Ibrahim Bangura found Callum Coulter's top corner. From then on, a Ks win always seemed most likely.

Darnell Goather-Braithwaite was sharp throughout and midway through the half he forced Coulter into a good save from a shot angling towards his top corner. And Ks came even closer just before the interval, David Nyarko firing off the underside of the bar after a neat Michael Abnett through ball.

The visitors continued to look the more dangerous side after the break, with Goather-Braithwaite firing narrowly over before playing Nyarko in on goal a minute later. Unfortunately, the Ks man took too heavy a touch as he looked to round Coulter.

On 65 minutes the second goal came though, with Goather-Braithwaite again involved. His low cross found Tom Collins and the forward did well to control the ball before turning and poking past Coulter from a tricky angle.

Casuals' attempts to get back on level terms were hampered by two straight red cards late in the game. First, Sean Agun was sent off for a foul which saw Abnett limp off injured; and two minutes from time Simbarashe Kudyiwa was also dismissed after appearing to retaliate towards Sean Bonnett-Johnson.

Ks still need to finish the job by picking up another point against either Cray or Hornchurch; otherwise, they'll have to nervously hope that neither Herne Bay nor Bowers & Pitsea win both their remaining games. Nonetheless, this was a huge result for Simon Lane's men in front of a passionate support.
