Canvey Island match report

match report by Philip Murphy

Kingstonian fell to a 3-0 defeat at The Movie Starr Stadium against a rampant Canvey Island. Hubble and Sach bagged the goals for the Essex side on a day to forget for Lee O’Leary’s men.

K’s received an earlier Halloween fright when Evans Kouassi twice went close in the opening two minutes.

Within eight minutes the hosts were ahead. Canvey's Elliot Ronto was needlessly dragged down in the box and skipper Conor Hubble smashed the resultant penalty into the top corner to set the Seagulls on their way.

Canvey bossed the opening twenty minutes and should have added to their lead. Danny Parish misfired after pouncing on a defensive mix-up and striker Bradley Sach cannoned off the post in a frenetic opening period.

Just as K’s looked to be finding their feet in contest the visitors added a second. Kouassi broke down the right and laid it on a plate for Sach to convert from close range just before the half-hour mark.

The Hoops almost hit back instantly. Nodirbek Bobomurodov played Tyrese Owen through on goal but the usually assured midfielder fired straight at Canvey stopper, Bobby Mason.

With Lee O’Leary preparing his half-time team talk an uphill task became a mountain to climb as Bradley Sach added his second to make it 3-0 with a smart finish from the edge of the box.

Half-Time: Canvey Island 3-0 Kingstonian

In a forgettable second period, despite decent spells of possession, K’s lacked conviction in the final third. The absence felt by Ben Ward Cochrane's long-term layoff becomes more noticeable with each passing week.

Canvey continued to provide a threat and should have added a fourth when Parish flashed across goal following a superb run. With the goal gaping for Sach the ball somehow bounced into the grateful arms of the assured Sam Jackson.

In the dying minutes Jack Strange rattled the cross bar from point blank range to cap off a frustrating day on the road.

Alas, as the clocks went back, K’s wait for an away victory reached 217 days, spanning the entirety of British Summer Time. Let’s hope for brighter away days in the coming months.
