Bowers and Pitsea match report

match report by Philip Murphy

Kingstonian left the Len Salmon Stadium with a share of the spoils, making it six draws in eight Isthmian League games. K’s led twice, but were pegged back on both occasions by a spirited Bowers and Pitsea.

In the opening minutes, Declan Skura, back in the line-up, rose well, but Kie Plumley in the Bowers goal managed to claw it wide.

At the other end, Mac Chisholm got down well to save from Sonny Fish.

But it was K’s who enjoyed much of the first half dominance. Plumley made a superb save from Sean Bonnett-Johnson at point-blank range,  Parchment blazed over from a Bonnett-Johnson cross and Owen couldn’t keep his shot on target after a free-flowing K’s move.

When K’s did find the opener on the half hour, it was in unlikely circumstances. Jack Strange played a hopeful ball upfield which the home side should have dealt with comfortably.  Bowers defender Jamal Allen deliberated and headed back towards goal, but with keeper Plumley off his line, the ball flew above him and rolled into the net, much to the amusement of the K’s contingent behind the goal.

A mere three minutes later however, Allen, made up for his previous mistake and volleyed home at a corner from close-range to pull the home side level.

Moment later it was K's turn to bounce back. Tyrese Owen received a Thomas Gogo cross inside the box, controlled and buried from close range to regain K’s lead in a frantic 8 minutes.

Following the flurry of action, K’s might have hoped to see out the half with minimal fuss but it was the heroics of Mac Chisholm that ensured K’s held an interval lead. Bowers skipper Dexter Peter volleyed sweetly from inside the box, but somehow the young keeper managed to deflect it wide.

Half-Time: Bowers and Pitsea 1-2 Kingstonian

If fans were spoiled for entertainment in the first half, the second period was a more forgettable affair.

The impressive Declan Skura had K’s only meaningful chance of the period in the early stages, firing over from just outside the box.

The hosts, despite growing possession were largely restricted to half chances until a defensive lapse gave Duane Ofori-Acheampong time and space to convert from close range in the 64th minute.

Both sides huffed and puffed in the remaining minutes with little end product and K’s had to make do with another share of the spoils.

Next up for Kingstonian, Potters Bar are the visitors to Mitcham on Sunday as K’s will look to avenge the two defeats which derailed last season’s playoff push.
