Hayes and Yeading United match report

Despite this game coming less than a fortnight into pre-season and being only the fourth game of July, K's supporters of a nervous disposition will probably remain nervous after this defeat by Hayes and Yeading United in the first game for which Imperial Fields is home base for Kingstonian.

Apart from some long-range shooting, K's rarely challenged the Middlesex side's goalkeeper in a game that felt disappointing from that point of view. Hayes took the lead in the 36th minute when one of their many triallists scored from a corner with an excellent header that evaded Ks' keeper Matte Pierson.

The second goal in the 50th minute was almost completely missed by this writer as he was trying to work out Kingstonian's half time substitutions, pre-seasons and PA announcers do not mingle well, but according to the Hayes and Yeading website, substitute Amos Nasha (called "A Trialist" on the day) was on hand in scoring his team's second goal.

The final goal came in the 66th minute when K's gave away the daftest of daft penalties with a needless tackle on the corner of the penalty area with the Hayes player running away from goal. Moses Emmanuel (called, like every Hayes and Yeading player on the day, "A Triallist" for this match, the Triallist family is a proud one) easily converted the spot kick.

There was time near the end of the game for a few dust-ups between sets of players but most of the rest of the second half can be put into the "all these substitutions interfere with the flow of the game" category.

We still have four pre-season games coming up as we visit Haywards Heath Town this Tuesday, Leatherhead next Saturday and end with trips to Tooting & Mitcham United and finally Merstham before our first League game of the season at Margate on 13th August. We are most definitely a "Work in Progress", K's supporters will be wanting to see some of that progress on Tuesday night at the Hanbury Stadium in Haywards Heath.
