Potters Bar Town report

This was absolutely an afternoon to forget, as Potters Bar Town, beaten 0-7 at home by Folkestone Invicta the week before, deservedly took the points at King George's Field to give Sammy Moore his first Scholars' win as their new manager.

The game started so well for the K's as they dominated the first ten minutes and were disappointed not to have scored at least one goal, but then the wheels fell off.

Firstly in the 12th minute there was an astonishing miss when some lazy Kingstonian defending gave possession away, allowing Samson Esan to round goalkeeper Rob Tolfrey and promptly pass the ball wide of a completely open net. However, K's did not heed the warning, and a minute later Joe Boachie unleashed a long-range shot which initially looked like going over the bar, but the wind grabbed hold of it and the ball dipped just under the crossbar and into the net for a superb opener.

This completely knocked the stuffing out of the home side, and their mood was not helped when Scholars' new signing from K's Frazer Shaw was only shown a yellow card for a dangerous-looking challenge on Rhys Murrell-Williamson - Kingstonian's relationship with the afternoon's match referee would get ever more fractious as the man in black continued to infuriate with strange decisions.

Nonetheless, K's were guilty of allowing the referee to defeat them and barely looked capable of equalising right until the moment that they did equalise, Jerry Puemo powerfully heading home a corner at the near post in the 39th minute. Surely it would be a matter of time before Kingstonian hit the front?

Sadly not.

Kingstonian spent the second half frustrating themselves and being frustrated by both the referee and the opposition, whilst not doing enough to threaten to take the lead.

And so it happened, Potters Bar Town went on a counter attack in the 67th minute and took the lead when Jaden Sharman's shot on the run beat Rob Tolfrey at the K's goalkeeper's near post.

An ever more bad tempered and tetchy game continued to drag its way to its conclusion, though K's should have claimed a point in second half injury time when firstly Elliott Buchanan had a goal ruled out for what must have been a close offside call and then the same player hit the post with the last kick of the game with the rebound being welcomed into his arms by the goalkeeper. End of game, let's go home.
