Lewes match report

match report by Simon Grier

Kingstonian extended their long unbeaten win with a 2-1 win at Lewes. In a similar manner to other recent 2-1 wins over Potters Bar, Bishop's Stortford and Brightlingsea it was not as straightforward as it might have been - Ks let the Rooks back into the game with a poor second half performance having dominated the first - but Hayden Bird's men hung on to secure all three points.

As is typical, Ks took a large following to the popular away game. And it didn't take long until the visiting fans had something to shout about with Dan Bennett forcing a good save from Nathan Stroomberg-Clarke with a low 20-yarder.

Lewes had the ball in Rob Tolfrey's net on nine minutes but James Hammond's goal was chalked off for offside. And on 15 minutes Ks were ahead, Gus Sow heading home after Bennett's effort had come back off the bar following an Andre Coker cross.

Dimitri Hatzimouratis fired over but on 27 minutes Ks had doubled their lead with a wonderful goal, Tommy Kavanagh's pinpoint pass cutting the defence open before Bennett slickly rounded the goalkeeper to score.

Ks seemed well in control at this point but they were unable to press home the advantage. Eddie Dsane fired wide with the only other clear chance they would create in the first half, while Tolfrey smartly saved a Berti Diau header.

After the break Tolfrey saved well from Thomas Day but Lewes got back in the game shortly afterwards, James Hammond taking advantage of a flat-footed defence to get through on goal and beat Tolfrey.

Ks would create little in the second half, Fabio Saraiva coming closest with a header that deflected over, while Omarr Lawson saw his effort come off a defender and go wide. But Lewes failed to take their chances to equalise with Tolfrey saving from Nici Dembele and then Diau volleying over deep into stoppage time.
