March Town United match report

match report by Simon Grier

Kingstonian were made to work hard by March Town United, three divisions below them, but eventually proved too strong for the Hares and triumphed 3-0.

For the first half hour, the casual observer would not necessarily have known though which team was three levels higher than the other. If anything, March were the better side with Jack Friend having an early goal ruled out for offside and a Dylan Kilford free kick going narrowly over.

It wasn’t until the 25th minute that Ks found their way into the game, with Louie Theophanous forcing Charlie Congreve to save well when he tried to round him. A minute later the referee thought Congreve had saved again from Theophanous, although the suspicion behind the goal was that a goal kick should have been awarded not a corner.

Friend forced Rob Tolfrey into a good save from a tight angle but on 39 minutes Ks took the lead, Dan Bennett driving into the bottom corner from the edge of the box.

Ks dominated the second half , with fitness perhaps playing its part against visitors who had faced a long midweek journey. Fabio Saraiva and Theophanous both forced Congreve to make saves and then midway through the half Ks doubled their advantage. It came from a defence-splitting through ball by Tommy Kavanagh, with Bennett skipping round the goalkeeper and tapping home.

There were further chances for Kavanagh and Calum Davies before substitute Youssef Bamba added a late exclamation point, driving home from the edge of the box after Theophanous was tackled.
