Wingate and Finchley match report
Before Kingstonian’s damp trip to Wingate and Finchley, they were yet to record an evening league win this season. They only had one away win. They won 4-0. Something has flicked in this Kingstonian team, and it was in full view in this game.
If the full time score was comfortable, you wouldn’t have seen it coming during a first half in which both sides had their chances. Twice former-K Reece Beckles-Richards was impressively denied, once by a Connor Dymond block and minutes later by a Mr Reliable, Rob Tolfrey. But the crucial defensive intervention came at the other end. James Daly knocked the ball past Luke Ifil but as he bore down on goal, was wiped out by the sliding challenge of Loic Hernandez to give Ks one of the most blatant penalties you’ll ever see. It was Daly who dusted himself off to convert the spot kick, sending Bostik loudmouth Shane Gore the wrong way.
The second half was far less even. Just 8 minutes into the period, Gore did well to deny Louis Theophanous, but the ball fell to new loanee Delano Sam-Yorke who couldn’t really fail to prod home. Substitute Mano Gogonas was next to get in on the action, firing home from the edge of the area via a deflection off Aaron Lamont to give Kingstonian’s Greek Army Knife his first goal of the season. All that was left was for Sam-Yorke to double his tally with a powerful drive from the edge of the area. He might only be here on loan, but he wants to be a part of it, Sam-Yorke, Sam-Yorke.
