Potters Bar Town win easily against inert K’s

Potters Bar Town’s Parkfield home is notable for a terrace which is narrower than the goal it stands behind. Congregated under its roof, and with K’s making an encouraging start in possession, this seemed like the night our season would finally getting going.

Instead, after a 15-minute spell and a Greg Cundle header, that was as good as it got for the away team. Potters Bar, newly promoted and with the highly-rated Keegan Cole upfront, outfought and, more worryingly, outplayed K’s for long periods and deservedly gained the club’s first league victory at Step 3.

The Scholars took the lead with 26 minutes on the clock as a fine crossfield ball by Dernell Wynter found Sandro Costa Dias Fernandes (Sandro). His cross dropped onto the head of Cole who headed in with barely a defensive challenge.

Five minutes later it was two as a Cole free-kick fell to Eoin Casey. The ball spent, by my inexpert calculation, around four lunar cycles to fall out of the night sky and Casey was still left on his own to control the ball and keep his shot down past Rob Tolfrey.

Tommy Brewer had been brought in to add steel to the K’s midfield but there was little to nothing to show in attack, with Elliot Buchanan woefully isolated upfront on his own and little width provided by the full-backs.

The second-half was largely a non-event. K’s never looked close to scoring, although there was at least a tame shot on target. A triple substitution saw Louie Theophanous introduced but the game’s momentum had gone and Bar captain Lee O’Leary was left to run the midfield.

Bar remained by far the more dangerous side (their wingers enjoyed a night of tricks and feints on the touchline) and they made it 3-0 twelve minutes from the end as substitute George Nicholas latched onto the ball before lashing it past a diving Tolfrey.

It's played two, lost two for K's. And Dynan-ball is under scrutiny as never before.
