Another Disappointing Day for the K’s at the Grove

March is a month that is supposed to signal a sense of optimism after the bleakness of winter - flowers appearing, temperature rising, Bostik League pitches improving from their mid-season quagmires.

For Ks though it has become something of a bogey month, a 1-0 defeat to Harrow Borough signalling the ninth consecutive match that they have lost in the month of March. Five straight defeats last season saw Tommy Williams' side plunge to the brink of relegation and while the non-league restructure means Leigh Dynan's side is not yet in immediate danger of the drop, this run of four straight defeats has left fans desperately hoping for improvement.

It was the fourth time in 2018 that Ks have lost 1-0 at home and it followed a now familiar template - a reasonable start before giving up the first goal and then showing too little in the final third to get back in the game.

It was nearly a perfect start as in just the fourth minute Jerry Amoo carried the ball forward from midfield with a fine run and then flicked the ball with his heel to pick out Greg Cundle. Cundle made himself space to shoot but could only graze the bar.

On 17 minutes though Ks were behind, George Moore curling a beauty past Rob Tolfrey from outside the area. And then ten minutes later the task got considerably harder when Sean Francis was sent off for a professional foul, hauling Ryan Moss down after he had robbed him of possession in a dangerous area.

Tolfrey made a fine save from a Moss volley before Ks created a couple of chances near the end of the half. As against Tonbridge though the shooting was again disappointing, with neither Jason Williams nor Amoo making things difficult for Harrow's Melvin Minter.

A couple more chances fell to Williams after the break but he couldn't hit the target and the Ks challenge soon fizzled out, the visitors using their man advantage to largely control the game. They looked more likely to double their lead than to concede but Moss fired one effort over and had another well-saved by Tolfrey late on.
