Heartbreaking Injury Time Defeat For K’s...Part I

Despite a fine display at Needham Market Kingstonian frustratingly ran out of steam near the end, going down 2-1 to the team second in the league.

Market goalkeeper Danny Gay magnanimously noted at the end that Ks had been the better side for 60 minutes. And he was right.

Ks were very much on top in the first half, giving Gay plenty of cause for concern. Youssef Bamba teed Joe Turner up to force the goalkeeper into a save, another Turner effort was deflected onto the post after tenacious work from Tom Derry and then Sam Page headed narrowly wide.

The breakthrough came on 37 minutes though, Bamba lashing into the roof of the net from the edge of the penalty area, giving Gay no chance.

Gay saved well from Lewis Taylor after the break, again after good work from Bamba, but as the half wore on Ks tired and the home side became more dangerous.

Rob Tolfrey had to make a good save from Luke Ingram but on 77 minutes Ingram struck, exploiting space and blasting past Tolfrey from the right-hand corner of the box.

Derry and Turner fashioned half-chances which Gay easily saved but the decisive moment of the game did not come until the 94th minute. Bruce Hogg brought Ingram down on the edge of the penalty area and substitute John Sands sent Tolfrey the wrong way from the spot.
