K’s Done In By Costly Errors
After producing their performance of the season seven days previously against AFC Sudbury, the Jekyll and Hyde nature of Kingstonian’s season took the bad route once again after a disappointing afternoon at Folkestone Invicta.
K’s went into the match without Pico, who was injured in training and didn’t make the trip, so Tom Derry made a welcome first start for the club. The men in grey came out of the block the quicker when Ryan Moss converted a Youssef Bamba cross in the fifth minute but the assistant referee’s flag saw to it that it wasn’t to count.
Invicta’s opening goal was defensively disappointing when a high ball was ballooned into the box by Scott Heard. K’s made a complete hash of any attempt at a clearance, allowing Miles Cornwell to nod home on his Folkestone debut.
It got worse for the K’s in the 34th minute when Cornwell passed the ball through to Joe Taylor, who in turn fed Ronnie Dolan, with the end result of the ball being slotted easily into the net. K’s now needed a big second half just to get to parity.
After the half time oranges were consumed, Kingstonian quickly halved the deficit, Ryan Moss heading home a Joe Turner corner from the left. No flag to deny him this time.
The visitors pressed hard for an equaliser with George Wells and debutant Ryan Gondoh both going close, but as often happens pressure down one end invites the counter attack and Invicta sealed the victory in the 73rd minute when Taylor controlled a Dolan pass and fired the ball home.
Kingstonian had chances in injury time with shots from Sean Bonnett-Johnson and Saidou Khan but it was no avail and the K’s made the long journey home defeated.
