K’s Through to Second Round of Robert Dyas Cup
After the disappointment of the defeat at the hands of Leiston, a positive reaction will have been demanded of the K’s players. A League Cup tie at Corinthian-Casuals, despite it being normally a banana skin as results have shown in recent years, proved to be the perfect time and place.
As is normal these days for League Cup ties, a much changed K’s side appeared on this night, with manager Tommy Williams awarding competitive Kingstonian debuts to youngsters Joe Robson and Will Bor.
K’s got off to the fast start they needed - after Daniel Sweeney’s shot was well saved by Danny Bracken, a subsequent attack in the seventh minute broke the deadlock. Elvis Hammond was the man who finished off a good team move with a lob over the onrushing Corinthian-Casuals goalkeeper and into the net.
Despite missing former K’s regulars Jamie Byatt and Carl Wilson-Denis, there was still a strong former K’s entourage in the hosts’ starting XI as they fielded Jason Turley, Joe Hicks and Steve Goddard in their line-up, and the latter was unfortunate not to equalise with a header from a Michael Fahm cross.
With the home side pressing for parity, K’s scored the second on 26 minutes as Nathaniel Pinney entered the “Best Lob” competition that Elvis Hammond started, lifting the ball over the unfortunate Bracken to double the lead.
K’s led by two at half time, and in truth the second half proved to have little in the way of alarms for the Premier Division side, who were easing their way into the last 32 of the Robert Dyas Cup.
The game was sealed for good in the 82nd minute when Pinney pounced on a defensive error and smacked the ball with venom past Bracken.
K’s move on to face a short trip to Walton Casuals in the Second Round, who defeated Chipstead in Round One by the odd goal in three.
