Pinney On The Double As K’s Come Back To Draw

Whyteleafe's new 3G pitch was the site of a hard fought pre-season game with Kingstonian.

Whyteleafe's club officials were justifiably looking proud at Church Road before the game with Kingstonian - this was the first match on their new 3g pitch, the pitch looking excellent in the baking heat of this summer afternoon.

Last season's Southern Counties East League Champions are back in the Ryman League after a two year hiatus and asked last year's Premier Division runners-up plenty of difficult questions during today's friendly.

K's will not have been happy with the half-time scoreline, as partly thanks to a couple of defensive lapses, Whyteleafe led 2-0 at the break, Ryan Fowler opening the scoring after half an hour which was followed nine minutes later by an excellent shot by Greg Andrews.

Alex Addai's insertion into the Kingstonian line-up at half time was the catalyst for the visitors' comeback, his run down the right wing and cross for Pinney score came three minutes into the second half, a goal that Pinney added to just six minutes later. Addai unfortunately picked up a knock that caused a precautionary withdrawal from the scene on the hour.

Both teams made the usual explosion of substitutions during the second half, but unusually this didn't dull the intensity of the game, with both sides looking eager to try and score the winner. A third goal for either side didn't arrive and the two teams had to be happy with a draw.
