K’s Move Into Final With Second Half Flurry

Kingstonian will face Merstham tomorrow (Sunday) in the Geoff Harvey Memorial Vase Final after 3-0 win over hosts Corinthian-Casuals.

K's chances of a threepeat in the Geoff Harvey Memorial Vase increased after a strong second half performance that saw off hosts Corinthian-Casuals.

The first half remained goalless, with both sides threatening but both coming up against a determined defence. The closest K's came was early in the half when a sliced clearance ricocheted off the bar and away.

The second half was a different story, as K's began to take their chances. The opening goal in the 50th minute had more than a whiff of offside when Andre McCollin's shot bounced off several players before arriving at the feet of Nathaniel Pinney, who, with everyone waiting for the offside flag, walked the ball around the goalkeeper and tapped into the net. No flag, the holders grabbed the lead.

There was far less controversy with Kingstonian's second, a penalty awarded in the 57th minute when Chris Henry was pushed over in the area. Nathaniel Pinney sent the keeper the wrong way with the spot kick.

Both sides made the usual myriad of substitutions, which as expected disrupted the flow of the second half, but K's finished off the scoring with seven minutes left when Dan Bennett nodded the ball home at the near post from a corner.

After a 2-1 win over Hampton and Richmond Borough, Merstham now face K's in Sunday's Final at 3.00pm, whilst Corinthian-Casuals will meet the Beavers in the consolation final at 11.00am.

Attendance (for whole day): 205
