K’s bag three points against Late-ston
Having failed to turn up for the previous fixture due to severe congestion on the M25, Leiston barely turned up for the re-arranged fixture as Kingstonian ran out comfortable winners with a goal in each half from Kavanagh and Moss.
Kingstonian could have hardly asked for a better start as a weak defensive clearance fell to Kavanagh on the edge of the area in the fourth minute. He had time to pick his spot and finished clinically with a low left foot shot into the bottom corner.
With neither side really dominating, the better chances fell to the home side as Knight and Moss went close. The best Leiston could manage was a tame header over from Parker.
The second half saw Kingstonian lift their level of performance as they created a number of chances. Leiston's keeper, Gay, made a couple of smart saves from McCollin, but was embarrassed when Hogg out jumped him at a corner, only for him to head just over. This was a prelude of things to come as a number of dangerous Knight corners finally told in the sixty seventh minute. Ryan Moss extended the lead as he made a clever run across his marker and headed powerfully into the top corner.
It was now pretty much game over, although Tolfrey was called upon to make his first save of the game in the eighty second minute. Following this, Leiston finally roused themselves and found some attacking intent without really seriously threatening, albeit a couple of scrambled clearances were required to ensure a Kingstonian clean sheet.
Bruce Hogg made an impressive home debut at left back where he didn't put a foot wrong all afternoon despite having the job of marking Leiston's only serious threat in the form of winger Rhys Henry. Josh Casey was also making his home debut and grew into the game nicely. He worked intelligently and constantly made himself available with his clever use of space.
So, a welcome three points and a clean sheet to boot, but more serious challenges remain ahead. However it was still important to not slip up against modest opposition.
