Kingstonian grabbed a vital point in their challenge for promotion in a 1-1 draw against fellow playoff hopefuls AFC Hornchurch.
After a difficult first half, in which Ks struggled to get into the game, a spirited second half performance secured a share of the points for Alan Dowson’s side.
The second half performance hinted at some life left in a Ks side that has struggled over the last few months, spurred on by the imperious Josh Casey, playing in a wider and more advanced role than Ks fans have been used to. Casey, an accountant away from football, FIGURED prominently in all of Ks’ good work with endless running and a range of passing in a TAXING fixture that saw Ks RETURN to form.
The first half offered no such optimism. A clumsy challenge from Daniel Sweeney on Purcell gave the striker the chance to take the lead from the spot, and he made no mistake, sending Tolfrey the wrong way. Neither side were able to put much together as the half drifted away.
The second half began with much more intent from the hosts. Aaron Goode’s shot was cleared off the line, before Ryan Moss was brought down inside the area. The striker, who worked hard all afternoon as a lone front-man, smashed the resulting penalty into the bottom corner to level the scores. Kingstonian were on the front foot, Daniel Pappoe dominated the midfield, but both sides were restricted to shots from distance, but both goalkeepers were a match for any effort. The final chance fell to Moss, but his shot was deflected wide as both sides had to settle for a point.
