Vines hits the town late on
For the second week running Kingstonian created enough chances to score nine goals.
In the end they were grateful to see Paul Vines finally slot home an equaliser against 10 man Enfield in the ninety first minute, as the game ended 1-1.
Kingstonian started off much as they had left off against Cray, in that they created chance after chance. The first, and probably best one, fell to Matt Pattison in the second minute. He seemed surprised as he found himself clean through on goal and hesitated fatally, when a goal looked inevitable, which allowed Siva to clear.
Further chances followed with Goode and Vines going close. However, much as they were creaking at the back, Enfield looked fluent on the counter and a dipping shot from Wallace, well saved by Tolfrey, served notice of their intent.
Indeed it was Enfield who took the lead in the twenty seventh minute as Taylor conceded a soft penalty when he was adjudged to have pulled back an Enfield player as he cut in from the left. The resulting spot kick was despatched by McGleish.
Kingstonian were soon back on the front foot with Vines heading narrowly over before dragging a shot wide when clean through on the keeper. Then, in a scramble from a corner, Enfield blocked five close range shots in quick succession in a pinball style passage of play.
In virtually the final action of the first half, Tolfrey was almost embarrassed from a deflected shot which looped and almost over him, before he pushed it onto the bar.
The second half started off in dramatic fashion as Enfield were reduced to ten men in the forty ninth minute. Centre half Kirby misjudged a long Tolfrey clearance and as McCollin raced through he was brought down from behind by O’Brien. The referee initially appeared to award a penalty, but after consulting the linesman correctly awarded a free kick on the edge of the area and then dismissed O’Brien, again correctly, as he was the last man when the offence was committed. After all this drama Pattison smashed the free kick straight into the wall.
Initially Kingstonian struggled to adjust to their numerical superiority, but as the match entered the final quarter they turned the screw. With Lodge (on for Koranteng) tormenting substitute right back Allen, both Vines and Pattison fired headers straight at Imber in the Enfield goal. In between these chances the lineman inexplicably failed to award a penalty for a blatant handball by Wallace, with the referee unsighted.
Just as it appeared a desperate Enfield would hold on for an unlikely victory, Vines latched onto a loose ball in the area before firing low into the corner from 12 yards, sending the away fans into wild celebration.
Kingstonian created enough chances to win two games, but were as wasteful as they has been clinical in the previous week. Bizarrely the Enfield keeper, Imber, had an easy game as Kingstonian either shot straight at him or wide of the goal.
