Small Rocks!
With the additions of Ian Gayle and Paul Vines, Ks fans have been wondering if the current starting line-up is...
...on paper, the strongest since their time in the Conference. While that remains to be seen, it was a substitute, Wade Small, who helped them to take all three points from a tight encounter with Bognor Regis Town.
The sides' previous encounter this season was also settled by a single goal, again in Ks' favour. And this encounter looked unlikely to provide even that low level of excitement until Small's 87th minute strike.
It was set up by the tireless Lewis Taylor, adorned in a head bandage, who capped an industrious performance by robbing Kane Wills in his own half and teeing up Small. Small curled the ball round a defender and goalkeeper Nick Jordan before it nestled in the corner.
It was a harsh blow to a home side who defended well all game, but one which sent the visiting fans into delirium as their side returned to the playoff places.
The game had been largely uneventful, and a goalless draw may well have been the fairest result. Ks had an early scare when Harvey Whyte robbed Tom Bird, but his shot was easily saved by Rob Tolfrey.
Andre McCollin came closest for Ks in the first half but his long range effort fizzed over the bar, while Ashley Robison came close from a similar distance for the home side.
On a heavy pitch and with two well-organised defences cancelling each other, the second half provided little more entertainment than the first.
Robinson had the home side's best chance but Tolfrey saved excellently with his legs. Stuart Axten had a header easily saved from a set piece, Lewis Taylor's effort was simple for Jordan and the referee ignored a Ks penalty shout when a Small shot appeared to hit Wills' arm.
But Ks were nothing if not persistent, grabbing the late winner through Small and then defending resolutely to close the game out.
